How many days do I need?
One full day for a day trek, or two days if you camp overnight. Add an evening in Munnar before the trek either way.

September to February, with November as peak season. December and January have the coldest nights. Avoid June to August, the main monsoon months.
How much does the Meesapulimala trek cost?

How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks for weekends and holidays, earlier for Christmas and New Year. Weekdays can often be arranged with a few days notice.
The trek
How long is the trek?
Approximately 8 to 10 km round trip, depending on where your group starts walking. Expect 6 to 8 hours on the trail.
Is it difficult?
It is moderate. There is no climbing or technical section, but it is long with steady ups and downs and strong wind near the top.
Can a first-time trekker do it?
Yes, if you are reasonably active. A few weeks of brisk walks or stairs before the trip makes the day much more enjoyable. Try our 4 week fitness plan.
Can I trek without a guide?
No. Entry is controlled by KFDC and a forest guide goes with every group.
Will we see wildlife?
Nilgiri tahr are often seen on the grasslands. Gaur and elephants also live in the area, and guides keep groups at a safe distance.
When will Neelakurinji bloom here next?
Neelakurinji flowers together roughly every twelve years. The last mass bloom around Munnar was in 2018, and the next is expected around 2030.

No. There are basic shared toilets at the camps. Use them before setting out.
Are there leeches?
Yes in the wet months, mainly June to early October. Leech socks help a lot.
Can I drive my own car to the base camp?
No. The last stretch is rough estate track. Park in Munnar and go up by 4×4 jeep.
Is there a minimum age?
Organisers usually set it around 10 to 12 for the summit. Tell us the ages in your group and we will advise.
Can I come solo?
Yes. Solo trekkers can join a group batch on fixed dates, which also keeps the jeep cost down.
Is it safe for women?
Yes. Our treks run with a trek lead and a forest guide, and many of our trekkers are women travelling with friends or solo.
What happens if it rains or KFDC cancels?
KFDC can cancel or postpone for weather or forest reasons. We will offer another date or explain refund terms, which we share in writing before you pay.
