Your stay options
All overnight stays on Meesapulimala are run by KFDC inside the forest area. Which ones are open, and their exact facilities, can change by season.
| Stay | Where | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Base camp tents | KFDC base camp above the tea estates | Groups, budgets, campfire evenings |
| Rhodo Mansion | Rhodo Valley, closer to the summit | Couples and small groups who want an early summit |
| Sky Cottage | A cottage on a cliff facing a waterfall and the Anamudi range | Small groups after something special |
Base camp tents
The classic way to do Meesapulimala. Tents are pitched together around the camp, there is a shared dining area and toilets, and the evening usually ends around a campfire. Capacity is limited, so weekends fill first.
Rhodo Mansion
A simple stay in Rhodo Valley, protected by an elephant trench. Sleeping here shortens the summit day and puts you on the grass slopes at first light.
Sky Cottage
A small cottage on a cliff edge, facing a waterfall and the Anamudi hills, with a clear roof for the stars on a cloudless night. It takes only a few guests and is the hardest stay to get.
What camp life is like
- Sleeping: tents with mats and sleeping bags or blankets. Nights are cold, so bring warm layers anyway.
- Food: simple, hot Kerala meals served at camp. Tell us about any dietary needs while booking.
- Toilets: shared and basic. Carry tissue and a small torch.
- Power: limited. Charge phones and power banks in Munnar.
- Network: weak or none. Enjoy the break.
Day trek or overnight?
| Day trek | Trek and camp | |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Pre-dawn from Munnar | Afternoon arrival at camp |
| Summit chance | Good, but clouds may beat you | Better, you start fresh at dawn |
| Effort | One long day | Split over two days |
| Best for | Fit trekkers short on time | First-timers, families, groups |
Sleeping well in the cold
- Change into dry clothes as soon as you reach camp.
- Sleep in a thermal layer, socks and a woollen cap.
- Eat a proper dinner and drink something warm before bed.
- Keep tomorrow’s layers inside your sleeping bag so they are warm in the morning.
